It was all over the news, the cargo train ran a red light. Cargo train should have waited at a train stop with double track railway for the passenger train to arrive and go past.
When the cargo train went past the red light, the dispatcher at that train stop saw that and immediately cut off the electricity on the power lines so the cargo train couldn't go any further.
But then the problem was the passenger train. It has a diesel engine and doesn't use the electricity from the power lines to move. So the dispatcher had to call the train engineer onboard that train to inform him that he is heading straight at a stopped cargo train in his railway track. Luckily there was mobile reception on the part of the railway where the diesel passenger train was located so the engineer was able to answer the phone and react in time. It stopped 200m away from the cargo train.

Yeah most likely, just like they did with the passenger train. Tho it's a question if they would manage to react fast enough before trains collided.
With the power cut off to the cargo train, they bought some time to warn the passenger train.
