Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
Yep it's a CPU game. My Ryzen 5 3600 runs it fine on ultra with the necessary addons (RX5700XT helps as well) so you don't need something super high end, but just turn on dev mode and see what's limiting you in your case, CPU or GPU.

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
Will definitely need to give that a go! It's a shame because some airports/aircraft I can run much higher settings but not everywhere and I don't want to have to adjust it each flight! I'd fly in and out of Heathrow more but it's the most FPS intensive place on the planet! (apart from maybe LA)

Yeah same happens to me in places like LA, Chicago and all those. Chicago is surprisingly bad for some reason. Paris was as well but they sorted it out. It's annoying but oh well. Hopefully a GPU/Ram upgrade helps it.

Yeah I mean for Alex. If he's running a lower end card it may help it if that's the limiting factor. No clue though without looking at itCDMC wrote: ↑2023/08/14 10:02but game needs fast CPU, not GPU/RAMPlane And Simple wrote: ↑2023/08/14 00:24Yeah same happens to me in places like LA, Chicago and all those. Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
What do you guys make of this? Not very good when it comes to debugging this kind of stuff!

The "limited by" seems to flick between Main Thread/GPU as I'm flying, with both between 41-55 ms most of the time:
I do generally get around 20fps but with noticeable lag in places particularly around busy airports, I need to have a tweak of settings but with those numbers is there much point upgrading just the GPU would you say?

First off what are your specs?
This game needs fast CPU, GPU is only secondary

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
Mainthread is CPU. If that shows, it's a CPU thing. If it was GPU consistently (which is not usual), then it's a GPU issue. I don't know how hardware goes but I read somewhere that the GPU shows up in there when the CPU is the issue because the GPU has to wait for the CPU to catch up, and as it sits it just shows as the limiting factor sometimes (or something along those lines).
I'd look at a MB/CPU upgrade to be honest, and possibly a GPU if yours is very low end.
