TL;DR
Basically you can make powerful shortcuts for folders that the apps won't even know its a shortcut.

For example, your save game files are stored in some AppData/local folder or whatever. But you want to have those save files on a different drive in different directory to keep them safe if by some reason your C drive dies.
So what this program does (or you can use cmd, but this is more simplified and easy to use option) is makes that your file is stored on what ever drive you want and makes a "virtual" shortcut in the original place where the game stores the saves by default.

Lets take CM21

It stores saves in

With this program making a symlink, it now stores the saves in my specified folder where i keep my important backups

The game has no idea that the save files are stored in another place, thus it works just like nothing happen. If you wipe your C drive, you still have your saves on another drive you specified. Its like your own Cloud storage, only you have full access to it. This can be used for anything, not just game saves.

If you go to
