Had a joy of used car purchase moment today, got the impression when buying the oil had been changed recently even if they didn't stamp the book

Had another chat with the salesman today, he goes like oh the oil have not been changed since 158732km in 2016, now sitting at 186500. I know some modern oils is supposed to have a 30k life, but i do not trust that for me it just sounds like bad engine care, and finding this out after doing the trip that was like 3000km for example...grrr

Oil change service on the 1 of october, got it bundled with a check of filters and the coolant thats in. God knows when they did anything with that, i smell more small bills :D Athleast one more worry about of the way before winter hits

Long life oil supposed to be changed every 30.000 km or 2 years, which comes first. You don't have to worry, it's on schedule! Some VAG cars have a viscosity meter in the board computer. Our A3 has one, currently it's on 78%. When it reaches around 10% you are advised to change the oil also.

Always check the maintenance booklet, or ask the dealer where you bought the car or call the dealer that is in the booklet that serviced the car. That 500,- euro A4 I bought hadn't had any maintenance over 5 years. That's why I had to rebuilt the engine...(head gasket was gone when I bought it. Because of wrong coolant.)

Good job on the service, costs some money but you can be sure that you can go trouble free in to the winter period.

The service + oil change/filter is 120 euros, a chain here that only does service, oil and exhaust Without ripping ppl off :emoji106:

That's dirt cheap! Be aware that they use the right oil, it needs special VW oil. 0W-30 or 40 or 5W-30 or 40. VW 507.00, VW 504.00 etc. Just look it up in the service manual. Mostly it's on a sticker in the front of the booklet. You have cold winters, so 0W-30 is probably recommended by VW.

Normally would not trust it being that cheap but its a old chain that operates here in Norway, one of those household brands ones that have never had any issues :D

There is 0 mention in any of the booklets about what oil to use, they made me enter the car licence place number when contacting them tho its used for everything car related here now, so they got more data than me :emoji12:

On a sidenote, this car was well maintained up to this point(after its only been timing belt/oil change/brakes when passing the eu test) i might take it back to a VW shop soon and see what they say

Had exactly the same problem earlier this year. Vista sucked big time, but 10 surpasses that! Never had to install a OS as much as 10, Vista also a lot...
