Hey guys, I did 2 rides with the fork after servicing, what can I say, it rides like new and I'm very happy with it. So thanks for the advice.
The season is mostly over, so I am looking at parts I want to upgrade for next season.
However, I also have a friend who is looking to buy a better bike than he has, so I am considering selling my current bike to him, but I am not 100% sure it would be the best option for me.
Now it's time to compare upgrading vs buying a new bike.
Here's the bike I would purchase: Sprint Apolon PRO 27.5" (price is 550 euros, not in stock right now)
https://sprint-bike.ro/shop/275/345752- ... 97102.html
Advantages compared to my current bike:
Tires: Schwalbe Smart Sam 27.5x2.25
Platform pedals: no name Chinese brand though
9 speed rear cassette+derailleur: Shimano Deore RD-M592 9 speed SGS, Shadow (my current derailleur bounces around - weak springs - and hits the frame, I don't like the sound)
Stem: 75mm stem
New frame geometry (handlebar length, angles, stem), may be more aggressive riding position than my current frame
Improved parts that I don't care about:
Wheels + hubs: may be stronger/smoother than my current ones, don't know
Headset bearing + bottom bracket bearing: my current ones are Chinese crap and they are rusting. At one point I will have to change them, but for now they are ok.
Things that remain the same:
Fork: Rockshox XC30 (mine is Rockshox 30 Silver, I think they are the same)
Hydraulic brakes: Shimano MT200
Shifters are just as good as the ones I bought for the hydraulic brake upgrade
After selling my bike (for 300 euros maybe? Fair price?), I will probably have to add an extra 250 euros to buy the new one.
Now I want to see how much I need to pay to upgrade my bike close to this level.
Shimano Deore RD-M592 7/8/9 speed SGS, Shadow - 35 euros
Brand name pedals: 25-30 euros
50mm stem: 15 euros
Better tires (Continental or Schwalbe): 40 euros
Total is 120 euros so far.
Compared to a new bike, the difference (130 euros) would account for new wheels, bearings, frame, etc. which I definitely cannot buy for this price.
I have put 430 euros into my bike so far, upgrading would bring the cost up to 550 euros.
What do you think makes sense? Sell to a friend and buy a new one or upgrade my own bike again?
I am considering the upgrade because it's cheaper but I also think I may be able to help a friend out and get a nicer frame/riding position+drivetrain for myself. I haven't tried a different frame so I don't know how big of a difference it can make.
Thanks for the advice.
